“The world is moved not only by the mighty shoves of the heroes, but also by the aggregate of the tiny pushes of each honest worker.”
– Helen Keller (1880 – 1968)
American Writer
Imagine that this was not written by someone labeled as a blind and deaf person, but as a celebrity and an American Writer. I love to read Helen Keller’s sayings. Inside all that darkness, there was great light and glory and an amazing mind.
As we recover from covid in Santa Monica, I do believe that every little step forward for us will turn in to the might shoves of the heroes.
Joel and I have never lost our hope, vision and dreams. Every bit of us has been tested here in LA County and Santa Monica, and we’re still here!
“The greatest discovery of my generation is that man can alter his life simply by altering his attitude of mind.”
– William James (1842 – 1910)
American Philosopher and Psychologist
Please notice that this “modern” self-help statement was pinned by William James between 1842 and 1910. This changing of the mind sounds so “hip” for todays world, yet this was written at the turn of the century. Every day, I try and do alter my mind. My first thought upon awakening is that I am surrounded by light. I also make this my last thought before sleep takes me to a safe place to rest.
I have tried many meditations and mind tricks but surrounding myself with light has been my lasting discovery. Also, I recently realized that I do not have to “power” the light. I must simply enter into it. The light itself is own energy and I only have to make the decision to let it cover me from without and within. These thoughts have given me great peace recently.
“Happiness is like a cat. If you try to coax it or call it, it will avoid you. It will never come. But if you pay no attention to it and go about your business, you’ll find it rubbing up against your legs and jumping into your lap.”
– William J. Bennett (B – 1943)
American Author and Educator
As in love throughout my life, I have been blessed with great loves and many kitties who have lived for many years. Teenie and Boo are almost 14 now. They are truly little stinky doodles and they come only when they want to come, or they hear the treats bag in the kitchen.
“As a cure for worrying, work is better than whiskey.”
– Thomas A. Edison (1847 – 1931)
American Inventor
I am a worrier, just like my Mom! Her middle name was “I’m sorry” and I am just the same. I worry and say I’m sorry way too much. I apologize so much because I don’t see that happening too much in the world very often. I say I’m sorry even if I have no connection to the problem…just to make peace. I hope I am a peace maker and not a troublemaker. We need a lot more peace in our crazy world right now.
“The world stands aside to let anyone pass who knows where he is going.”
– David Starr Jordan (1851 – 1931)
American, University President, Author
We started this writing with the blessing of taking mighty shoves or just tiny steps forward. I’m all for those kinds of steps when I know the world will open up to me as I boldly step forward knowing where I’m going. During covid, it has been knowing where we are going through faith and hard work. I’ve just keep moving to the light and into the light.
Those in the theatre and opera and all forms of stage entertainment have all lived in tremendous uncertainty. The state has been plagued by outbreaks in the cast as late as opening night, and the understudies become famous overnight by stepping into the rolls.
I only know that I am moving forward with all my mind, heart and soul and I am not looking to the right or the left. If I’m forced to stop, I’m always keeping my engine running so I’m ready to pull into the fast lane an any time.
Whether it is through mighty shoves or tiny pushes, keep moving forward with hope and vision.
Thanks for reading. Keep on Dancing. It will get better.
Love you all,
David Woodbury
