“Remaining Peaceful During Times of Turmoil”
Our motto this year at Arthur Murray Santa Monica is:
“See Clearly in 2020. Make all your dancing dreams come true!”
No.11 3-13-2020 Changing Lives Through Dancing
“Remaining Peaceful During Times of Turmoil”
Well, do you think we have enough going on right now? Corona virus, November Elections, closures and cancellations and travel restrictions everywhere you look. We do not know what tomorrow may bring and that is our new reality.
If you are in school, you are suddenly out of school and home studying on a tablet. If you like sports or music festivals, all that has stopped. The news is running faster than I have seen in many years.
What is life like in our Arthur Murray Dance Center? We have many, many lessons going on and groups and dance practices. Couples coming in for weddings that might not happen because of travel restrictions. We are washing our hands like crazy and cleaning our school all the time. As a cook, I always have said, Go Wash Your Hands, and now that is happening here all the time.
What are our plans? We are staying open, in a save and health-conscious manner, until we are told we cannot be open. Our student need a place to come where they may relax and have a little fun as long as they can. Our couples are loving their lessons and our single students are finding a place where they can come in and be at peace amid all the turmoil outside.
What will happen tomorrow, I don’t know. I do know this, as long as it is safe and we can provide a good environment for our staff and students, we will continue dancing and promoting good physical and mental health.
Perhaps we will teach without contact. Perhaps we will use visual lead and follow. The possibilities are endless but dance we will until we can’t. Remember Disco, it may make a comeback very soon!
What am I sure of right now? The virus will lose its grip. I know that this world pandemic will eventually be over, and we will be healthy again and that we will be smarter and perhaps just a little bit nicer, more patient, and thankful for the good in our lives.
I am sure that we will make it through this trial and that it will get better. Perhaps not just tomorrow, or the next week, but it will get better and we will have brighter days ahead.
If you are in a panic, take a deep breath. Be smart and resilient and be safe. Continue to take good care of your health, eat well, drink lots of liquids, and exercise to keep the body strong and healthy.
Take a moment and call a friend and tell them you love them and that they will be OK during this crisis. Reach out to someone who is alone and comfort someone who has no one to comfort them.
We will be well and better soon. This will pass. Stay strong, keep your spirit strong, and surround yourself with positive thoughts and actions.
Good health and happiness to all who read this blog! This quote is from last week’s blog. I’m using it again because it has such a strong message:
Man has never made any material as resilient as the human spirit.
— Bernard Williams (1929-) English Philosopher
