No 04 1-25-19 “Be committed to excellence and to victory.”
“Each of us, if we would grow, must be committed to excellence and to victory, even though we know complete victory cannot be obtained, it must be pursued with all one’s might. The championships, the money, the color; all of these things linger only in the memory. It is the spirit, the will to excel, the will to win; these are the things that endure.”
– Vince Lombardi (1913 – 1970)
American Football Coach
Do I think all my dreams will come true? This is my answer. I’m going to live as if they were all coming true. Someone asked me about my faith and what if everything I believed is was just a myth and a lie. My answer was this, no matter what, in the end I would have had a lifetime of believing in love, faith, forgiveness, healing, fellowship and renewal. The peace in my heart from believing for a lifetime would have been worth every second. My spirit, the will to excel, win and endure would make the journey a sweet life to live.
“You see things; and you say, ‘Why?’ But I dream things that never were; and I say ‘Why not?'”
– George Bernard Shaw (1856 – 1950)
“Destiny is not a matter of chance, it is a matter of choice; it is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved.”
– William Jennings Bryan (1860 – 1925)
American Politician, Religious Advocate
Many years ago, my dance partner asked if she could read my future. I do not like doing that and resisted, but she did give me a reading. When she saw great sorrow in my life, I asked her am I able to change my destiny and she surprised me with a strong yes. I resolved at that time to be in charge of what happens in my life as much as I can. Later in my life, I did experience heartache that broke my spirit, but I made the choice to recover and grow. Life did get better.
“Be of good cheer. Do not think of today’s failures, but of the success that may come tomorrow. You have set yourselves a difficult task, but you will succeed if you persevere; and you will find a joy in overcoming obstacles.”
– Helen Keller (1880 – 1968)
Commenting on quotes from Helen Keller always make me cry. Helen Keller was blind, deaf, and unable to speak until later in her life. Get this, she is remembered as an American Writer. Imagine that, deaf, blind, unable to speak and she is remembered as a writer. What an amazing life. I have all my 5 senses, what will I be remembers for?
Helen Keller has given me strength to let go of my past failures and look with light and hope to tomorrow. Will I fail, I can guarantee that I will have many failures, but I will also have some great successes along the way, and they will be sweet moments in my life.
“When nothing is sure, everything is possible.”
– Margaret Drabble (1939)
“Courage is grace under pressure.”
– Ernest Hemingway (1899 – 1961)
“Pain nourishes courage. You can’t be brave if you’ve only had wonderful things happen to you.”
– Mary Tyler Moore (1936)
Nothing is every sure, but life is full of possibilities. Feeling pressured? Release the grace within you. When I was 18 and a new Arthur Murray Dance Student, my teacher gave me a Benefit of Dance Sheet with these 4 words on it: Poise, Carriage, Grace and Composure. These words have been pillars that have held up my life for 43 years as a Ballroom Dancer! The pressure of life will release your inner grace which will make you courageous!
Don’t sweat the bad things in life. These trials will really hurt when you are going through them. They will break you and send you to the Dark Nigh of the Soul. When you re-enter into the light, you will have renewed strength, new vision and knowledge that life is not just about having wonderful things happen to you all the time. It will cure your fear of life and the courage will make you a mentor and a leader.
