No 52 12-28-18 “All the great things are simple”
“All the great things are simple, and many can be expressed in a single word: freedom; justice; honor; duty; mercy; hope.”
– Sir Winston Churchill (1874 – 1965)
Today, I look at the past of the great heroes and leaders in my life. I am thankful for the great work ethic that was given to me and the sense of responsibility that was my example in life. I also see my own piers who are movers and shakers and who are turning the world upside down. Then, the exceptional young people who are coming up through the ranks. They are hard workers, starters, finishers, dreamers, and they are the leaders for today and for tomorrow.
“I am convinced that the world is not a mere bog in which men and women trample themselves and die. Something magnificent is taking place her amidst the cruelties and tragedies, and the supreme challenge to intelligence is that of making the noblest and best in our curious heritage prevail.”
– Charles A. Beard (1874 – 1948)
When I see the exceptional talent that lives in the hearts of so many young people today, they give me hope through their intelligence and their noble curiosity. They stand out in the crowd. They start a job and finish it. During the process they make the job more efficient, easier, and they use this opportunity to inspire and encourage others. They are the inspiring leaders and they are the mentors of tomorrow.
As we approach a new and exciting year, I pray for and look to the youth of today and I have a great desire to help and mentor them. They need guidance for how to dream, make their dreams come true, and how to inspire others to dream and make their own dreams a reality. Hope, vision, and passion and desire are limited ingredients in much of our world.
The advice I would give to anyone of any age today is to look to the big picture. Look to the end and do today what is needed to get to the envisioned goal. Surround yourself with people you want to become like. Fill the circle of friends and leaders around you the heroes that you want with you for the rest of your life. This may take years of growth and change, but it will land you feet of a rock of support and mold you into a leader and mentor yourself.
As 2019 approaches, I now look to the exceptional people all around me to join them, help them, guide them, learn from them, uplift them and be blessed by them. I pray for strength and patience as we all grow and become our best selves. Yes, all the great things in life are truly simple and my single word for that simplicity is service. Have a Happy New Year!
