“The happy people are those who are producing something; the bored people are those who are consuming much and producing nothing.”
– William Ralph Inge (1860 – 1954)
English Theologian
Have you ever been working on a project and someone some came in complaining, especially about something someone else was doing? They will tell you at length what the other person is doing wrong and usually they just get up and leave after dropping that on you.
Then there is the other person. The one who comes up to excitedly with a new idea that will help everyone grow and prosper. They have produced a plan of action, what it will take to make the idea come alive, and then they say that they will do the work and lead the way! They go to others around them and inspire them to make this new dream a reality.
The self starter, the dream maker, the person with initiative, is never bored. They are always producing and creating magic wherever they go. I have friends in my life who are so inspiring, we must have pen and paper as we chat. The chemistry and energy we create just talking is amazing. These are friends who are filled with vision, energy, and joy. Just their presence creates inspiration and action.
“There is no exercise better for the heart than reaching down and lifting people up.”
– John Andrew Holmes (1773 – 1843)
American politician
Another quality of the happy is helping others. They are the champions to the self-starters. They are the heroes to those without vision and drive and they can get someone with just a small vision to realize a great dream. They are always reaching down and lifting through their words, actions and their inspiration.
“Never be haughty to the humble; never be humble to the haughty.”
– Jefferson Davis ((1808 – 1889)
President of the Confederate States of America
What do happy people do with the negative people? They do no tolerate them. Happy people are very kind to the humble, but the haughty and the proud, beware. The happy person will read the riot act to a stubborn, haughty, and self-centered person. I am very fortunate to have good friends who will not hesitate to tell me the truth, unfiltered and uncensored. Guess what,I trust them! I trust someone who will check me in my haughty moments and who will also share with me the profound and glorious moments.
“You can preach a better sermon with your life than with your lips.”
– Oliver Goldsmith
(1728-1774) Irish Writer
How does this quote apply to the happy person? The answer is simple. When a quiet group of friends are together, and suddenly the charismatic person with a spark appears, we hear loud and happy greetings. Tons of laughter. There is the physicality of hugs and kisses and in just a few moments, everyone is laughing the whole mood has changed because of that one person. They truly are the light and life of the party.
Their actions of joy, their habit of happiness, is infectious and contagious. Ever notice how you are after hanging around someone who is laughing. You are happy even after they are gone. And you have enough joy to share your laughter with others.
There is a YouTube video of someone on a subway car beginning to laugh and laugh and laugh. Within a matter of minutes, everyone around them begins to laugh and eventually the whole subway car of strangers is laughing. You are also laughing while watching the video. There is no reason for the laughter, it is just the result of the magic of happiness.
Try this, greet a great friend and hold their hands. Compliment them and laugh, and laugh, and laugh with them. They will feel so good and they will share the best and happiest part of their day with you.
Practice the habit of happiness!
